Katherine Bishop, new owner of The Market Folk, Brisbane's curated craft and pet market series

A New Chapter for The Market Folk — Meet Katherine Bishop

There's something special about a business that feels like it was always meant to find you.

For Katherine Bishop, The Market Folk was exactly that.

Katherine officially took the reins at the end of March 2026, becoming the new owner of Brisbane's favourite curated craft, art and pet markets. And while the name on the door has changed, so much of what you love about The Market Folk remains exactly the same.

25 years in the making

Katherine didn't just stumble into this. Her path to The Market Folk is the story of an entire career heading in the one direction.

With 25 years across advertising agencies, marketing management, corporate event management, and running producer-led farmers markets, Katherine brings a rare combination of commercial experience and genuine love for what markets are really about — connection, creativity and community.

Before moving to Queensland in early 2021, Katherine co-owned her own corporate event management company and ran multiple producer-led farmers markets in Victoria. She knows what it takes to build a market community from the ground up, and she knows what vendors and customers need to feel at home.

"The Market Folk represented a culmination of everything I've done. My marketing and events career, my love of supporting small producers, and my belief in creating real spaces for makers to connect with their customers."

To Sarah — thank you

None of this would exist without the woman who built The Market Folk

Sarah created something truly beautiful. A business with genuine values. A community with real warmth. A business that became a beloved fixture across Brisbane. Katherine is deeply grateful for the legacy Sarah leaves behind, and she doesn't take lightly what it means to carry it forward.

"Sarah built something I personally align with at every level. The values, the brand, the community spirit. I have every intention of continuing in the spirit she created, supporting small producers, championing artists, and helping Brisbane connect with its makers."

What stays, what's coming

For vendors and market-goers, the most important thing to know is this: the team you know is staying on. Familiar faces, the same care, the same commitment to curated, community-led events.

What Katherine brings is fresh energy, deep expertise, and an ambitious vision for The Market Folk's next chapter. With events in the planning for existing and new venues, the business is growing, and Katherine is here to lead it.

Come say hello

Katherine's a mum of four, a dog lover, and someone who genuinely believes that markets are one of the best things a community can have.

That's why you'll find her at the markets. She's not a behind-the-scenes operator, she's in it because she loves it.

The next events are coming up in May, with Mother's Day Markets at Portside Wharf and King Street, plus the Stones Corner Festival. Come along, find your new favourite maker, and introduce yourself.

The Market Folk is in good hands. And the best is still to come.
